Power Query (English)
Description
Do you use Power BI to load data yourself, but is it time for the next step? With Power Query (part of Power BI) you can explore data from the most diverse sources and formats, assess data quality, retrieve, transform and load it into the Power BI data model.
Power Query supports over 350 different types of data transformation. You can usually set this up via the graphical interface, but Power Query also supports the use of functions, *custom columns* and directly entering or modifying the M code in the Advanced Editor.
In this two-day training we look at the best way to import, transform and load your data using Power Query and M (the language of Power Query). We work hands-on with data to create queries that have added value for your organization.
We look at both classic Power Query for Desktop that you know from Power BI Desktop and Excel, and at the more modern variant Power Query Online , which is used in Power BI dataflows, among other things, via an internet browser.
This course is aimed at data analysts and report developers in Power BI who want more powerful capabilities to load their data. You may recognize yourself in one of the following descriptions:
- You are used to working with the Power Query editor, but the frequently used functions via the graphical interface are too limited. You suspect that there are capabilities in Power Query that are even more powerful because they fall just outside the standard solutions.
- In addition to extra depth in Power Query for Desktop, you also want to learn the newer variants in Power Query Online. But you are looking for a training that is hands-on, and where you can immediately apply what you have learned in practice.
After this two-day training:
- Do you understand the structure of queries in "M" (the language of Power Query)
- Can you build advanced queries yourself and do you know how to apply the possibilities of the Advanced Editor to write M yourself.
- You will learn how to use parameters to not only make your queries variable and enable incremental loading, but also how to limit development time
- Learn how to properly document your queries, so that your colleagues and/or customers understand them later
We do this as you are used to at Wortell Smart Learning: under the guidance of an inspiring trainer with practical experience, with really good material, and space to bring your own practical cases. So we do a lot ourselves. Want to know more about this? Please contact us for the possibilities!
Prerequisites to follow the Power Query training
To be able to follow the Power Query training, it is important to be well versed in Power BI. For example, you may have acquired this prior knowledge in the Power BI: Self-reporting and data analysis training (PL-300 / PL-300T00) , or our Power BI + DAX learning path .
As a participant you need access to Power BI Desktop on your own work laptop.
